My father died 1/4/2010, his funeral is tomorrow and the viewing is today. He had congestive heart failure, COPD and was 85. My father told me on the 4th July celebration at my house that he wouldn't be here for the next 4th. However, none of that knowledge has spared me the overwhelming sense of loss and pain. I am the youngest of four girls and I also have two brothers. He was my hero.

My best friend is flying in today and my friends have really been here for me. My family is grieving as well, especially my mother so I have been leaning on my friends. My significant other, well he decided two days ago to tell me our relationship was over, yes, a few days before my father's funeral -- good riddance comes to mind.

I want to make it through the viewing and funeral. My only goals.

I am grateful for this site. Thank you for sharing your experience in this most difficult time. My Pop died on this past Christmas Day, 2009. It is so difficult to deal with the pain of missed opportunities. I didn't live in the same state as my Dad so I did not see him as much as I should have. I have regret about that. I miss him so much. I just want one more day, one more hour with him so I could tell him how much he means to me.
I bet you made it through the viewing and funeral. I know I was able to read the eulogy I wrote for my Father and with the help of my cousins and one of my Dad's brothers I was able to make it through. Hang in there and I will too.
Thank you Amy. I did make it through and actually found comfort in the funeral. I too think of missed opportunities with my Dad. We lived about 35 miles apart. We will both hang in there.
