I mentioned in one of my post about meeting some widows in a focus group and how wonderful it was to talk to them in person.  It was like posting on this web site, only in person.  Carol replyed back to me and she thought it would be nice to meet in a "nice place - middle , kind of like Middle Earth from the Lord of the Rings."  She suggested we start a discussion about it.

Are there others who would like to try and plan on a place to meet like that widow group that meets in CA?  I know we are all from all over the world, but like Carol said, if you want it bad enough we can do it.

I don't know exactly how to go about to try and plan an event like this, but if others want to, we could put all our ideas together, maybe there is someone who is good at planning things that could guide us.

This was just an idea, maybe it is to far fetched an idea, but it is nice to think about it anyway.

I like the idea. Ideas that come to mind are some places that might be centrally located (at least for  USA residents) like Chicago or Memphis. We could also try destination areas like Disney World, Disneyland Resorts or New Orleans. Just a thought. We might want to set up a side pot so that those not financially able to come might be able to.
I like your ideas Chicago.  I don't know where you live, I live in NC and Margarita who also posted she would like to get together lives in FL.  Destination areas might be cheaper to get to as they are always offering deals for vacationers.  Lets see if there are more responders.

I'm from upstate NY and would love to meet all of you...But it's sad, I've already come up with one hundred excuses in my head why I wouldn't be able to make it and we haven't even planned anything yet.   Pathetic, huh??

Seriously, I have thought many times how great it would be to get together in person to share our stories and get those hugs we always write about.

Let's hope this works out!

p.s.  Is anyone near Bradenton, FL???

It sounds like a wonderful idea girls (and guys). If we want it bad enough it can come together. I was part of a wonderful group of girls that worked toward weight loss together with Nutrisystems and we decided to do this a couple years ago. We actually managed to get 13 women from California-Washington State-New Jersey-Florida-Connecticut-Massachusetts-South Carolina-North Carolina-Alabama together in Charlotte, North Carolina for a weekend. It was fantastic and we still laugh about it 3 years later. Let's chat about it some more and see how it comes together. Alot of us really do want to get out of ourselves for a time and this could be a wonderful step for many. Hugs to everyone, hugs are good..

Kathy, (and everyone else)

Thank you so much for your very possitive response.  I agree that this could be a wonderful step for us to get out of ourselves for a little while.  I have been thinking about this all morning and thought this is the first time I have been excited about anything.  Just thinking about trying to get people together that have something in common with me, even if it is the terrible roller coaster of grief.  Can't wait to see all the other responses.  Yes hugs are good.

Linda, I just figured out that you and I only live 4 hours from each other so maybe we can get together one day. Christy is over in GA and we are working on her and I doing lunch so some mini groups can get together and see how it goes toward the big one. Sorry we have to be in this group but if friends come from it I know our men would be thrilled for us..

Wouldn't it be just lovely to be able to meet.We need to post where we all are then try to figure out a central location. randy and i are back and forth between indiana and new jersey we are in jersey now and hoping to meet with connie before we head back to indiana.this is worth some serious thought. Hugs

Kathy,

Christy and I have been trying to get together also.  That would be fantastic to get mini groups.  Keep me in touch as to when you and Christy are going to try to get together.  I am all for it.  And Neal would be estatic to know I am making new friends.

So far the responses are from  NC, GA, NJ, SC, NY, FL, CA.

I am in Michigan but would be willing to to travel to parts unknown. I think it would be neat to meet each other as we certainly all have a common bond be it a tragic one.

I am in Southern California.

However many of us get together the first thing we should do is have a group hug. That is one of the things I miss the most is being able to hug my wife and hold her, and be held by her.

Chicago,  I am with your idea 100%.  I think all of us miss the hugs from our spouses which is why the Hugs took hold so easy on this web site.

Chicago posted some ideas as to where we could meet.  Does anyone else have any ideas?  Like I said in my first post, I am not too good a planner, but I would really like to make this happen.  I am willing to travel to parts unknown like Deborah.  Do we need to just pick a location with a hotel with conference room where we could all get together, or a location with entertainment like Disney or what?  Lets get some ideas out there and see what everyone thinks.

Hugs to all of you and I hope everyone has a good day or at least an OK day.
