The loss of my 26 y/o son last year to suicide has affected my faith and beliefs in profound ways.  I had certain beliefs about God, and expectations of what his promises and "responsibilities" toward me were.  Those are pretty much trashed now.  I don't know what I understand as true anymore.  I'm on a pilgrimage now to rediscover what I believe about God.  I'm definitely much less dogmatic this time around.

Theresa,
Are you looking to know what the Bible teaches about God? The reason I ask is that all too often the truth of the Bible has been clouded by thoughts and traditions of man rather than what the Bible really teaches. Pray about it and ask God to help you find truth and comfort. Prayer is very powerful - maybe it has already brought us together...

For me when I have lost a loved one or a friend, It is hard for me to do my usual meditating in Church or praying.   Once the day has come, whether is anniversary to current, then I am back to my praying.   I prayer my usual prayers that I have found comfort in. Sometimes I just sit and tell God I don't know what to say or pray.  What am to do.  And sometimes after just sitting and telling God in my thoughts;  I feel better and God has led me on the road back to him.   I am a Roman Catholic who returned to the my faith a couple years ago.  I loved it & find a lot of comfort here.  However, Feast Days of Loved one's and of new friends who pass is still hard.  It drags me away for a while.   It is concerning since I always get some type of premonition before hand that someone will die.  I received it a couple weeks ago & had a friend die and a H.S. Classmate die that I had not seen since High School even though I believe I may have met her not knowing who she was, just a "something about her is familiar" sense.   So everytime I receive a premonition it is bothersome since I do not know when or how soon someone I know will die.

How is your search working out? Have you found that God is helping you through life in this world which lies in the power of Satan? (1 John 5:19) "We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one."

Throw your burden upon Jehovah himself, and he himself will sustain you. Never will he allow the righteous one to totter.—Ps. 55:22.
As we personally cope with life’s problems and diligently seek to comfort others, we can have the same faith and conviction as did the psalmist who sang the above. Indeed, Jehovah will always be there to comfort and support us as his loyal servants. God told his worshippers of ancient times: “I—I myself am the One that is comforting you people.” (Isa. 51:12) Jehovah will do the same for us and will bless our good deeds and words as we comfort mourning ones. Each of us can be comforted by Paul’s words to his spirit-anointed fellow Christians: “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of undeserved kindness, comfort your hearts and make you firm in every good deed and word.”—2 THESSALONIANS 2:16, 17

Hope to hear from you soon

Have you found the peace you were looking for? Prayer is powerful, and puts us in direct touch with the creator of the universe. As the creator of man, God created us to have a special need for him. Jesus admonishes his disciples “always to pray and not to give up,” illustrating this by a persistent widow who continually petitioned a judge until he gave her justice. Only Luke tells of the disciples’ request for Jesus to teach them to pray and of the angel’s strengthening Jesus as he prayed on the Mount of Olives; and he alone records the words of Jesus’ final prayer: “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit.” (1:10, 13; 2:37; 3:21; 6:12; 9:28, 29; 18:1-8; 11:1; 22:39-46; 23:46) As in the day when Luke recorded his Gospel, so today prayer is a vital provision for strengthening all who are doing the divine will.

Please keep me in your prayers and I will keep you in mine. . .
