Hi Kristi,

I definitely agree with what Rose said to you before. Feeling numb is definitely a way for you to mentally and emotionally deal with your loss. Many things right now may make it difficult to find comfort in the loss of your son. But, I have good news for you! One thing that can help with the healing process even months, years, decades after someone we love passes away is having peace of mind of what has happened to them now that they are no longer with us. So, here's the truth...

The Bible’s answer

The Bible says: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5; Psalm 146:4) Therefore, when we die, we cease to exist. The dead can’t think, act, or feel anything.

“To dust you will return”

God explained what happens when we die when he spoke to the first man, Adam. Because Adam was disobedient, God said to him: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) Before God created Adam “out of dust from the ground,” Adam did not exist. (Genesis 2:7) Likewise, when Adam died, he returned to dust and ceased to exist.

The same thing happens to those who die now. Speaking of both humans and animals, the Bible says: “They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.”—Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20.

But, here is some GOOD NEWS!

Death is not necessarily the end of everything

The Bible often compares death to sleep. (Psalm 13:3; John 11:11-14;Acts 7:60) A person who is fast asleep is unaware of what is happening around him. Likewise, the dead are not conscious of anything. Yet, the Bible teaches that God can awaken the dead as if from sleep and give them life again. (Job 14:13-15) For those whom God resurrects, death is not the end of everything.

We can find much comfort in knowing that our loved ones who have passed away are not suffering or floating mysteriously in the afterlife, but yet are "sleep" awaiting the day that God resurrects us to a perfect paradise earth. You WILL be able to see your son again! That is what gives you hope.

There is a group on Facebook called Wings of Hope for grieving parents.  I have a gathering at least once a month in Louisville, KY we share our stories and talk about our children who has died. Please join us.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your child.  I too have lost loved ones in death and I was able to find comfort in what the bible says.  At Acts 24:15 the bible says that “There is going to be a resurrection.”  This truly brings comfort to me, it brings me freedom from a morbid fear of death, and also it brings me an assurance and a real hope of being reunited with my dead loved ones and I wanted to share this hope with you.  God has resurrected humans in the past and he is eager to do it again and I pray that this message brings you and your family comfort.   Children are a gift from God and how we can find comfort with that wonderful hope of a resurrection.
