Don't know if anyone else has this problem, but my Kevin was on SS Disabiltiy prior to death, & I finally filed for social security on him last year ( I am 62).  Get this; SS is only paying me for 4 mos this year based on what I make. I lost my job due to bankrupcy, etc, 3 mos after he died; found another fob 4 mos later @ $4 less an hour.  OK, so I had 2 incomes, & now only 1 @ less $ & SS won't pay me all year based on what I make.  That was his money he worked all his life for, & I can't get it all year. How crazy is that???Finacially, I am really hurting, & I mostly blame our (not so) wonderful government.  It's enough that I don't have him, but he would be so unhappy at how I am struggling with $!

Hi Linda, I hear you too.....my Kevin was on SS disability for 10 years before he died, and they won't give it to me because I am 53, but they are giving a little to my son who is only 13, however it won't cover my bills and house payment, so for the 2nd month in a row, I can't afford my house payment and we will be foreclosed on soon, which is fine with me because I don't want to live here anymore, too many memories, and the house is worth so much less than I owe on it....so we are going to move to another state to be with my older son, my sons need each other and I need them. Isn't government just wonderful, NOT! It has been a little over 1 month for me, one day at a time is just so difficult. I hope you are doing ok.
LINDA, I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU ARE HAVING SUCH FINACIAL DIFFICULTY. IT IS SO HARD WHEN YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT ON TOP OF LOOSING A SPOUSE. IT REALLY DOES SOUND CRAZY ABOUT THE SOCIAL SECURITY. IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. BUT LIKE YOU SAID OUR GOVERNMENT MAKES NO SENSE. I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU. I CANT GIVE ANY ADVICE AS MY HUSBAND WASNT ON SS DISABILITY.
Wow, Linda, I really don't know how Social Security works since I was on a disability for several years before my husband passed. However, I do know that when I finally got around to calling them, I connected with a really nice fellow. All I was calling for was to get the great big $255 death benefit but he told me I was also entitled to a whopping $19 per month in addition to my benefit. It really gets you upset when you see what our government gives to illegals and other countries while there are so many, many people in this country that really need some help. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope that you will be able to get by with your money situation as well as the terrile grief process that you are going through. I will remember you in my prayers.
Hi to all, I am sorry that we all have to go though the things we have to go thru. Then we have to worry about our money and finances.LouAnn died suddenly 2 days before her SS check, I didnt get that. Two days before us seniors got that stimulous check in 2009,I didnt get that. I wont go into details but we all have the same problems and it sucks big time. I am barely surviving every which way but loose. You are right about how the illegals get taxpayer money, the banks and insurance companies get all that bailout money. It isnt fair. Arent we suffering enough with the loss of our spouse? Our future gone and we are left fending alone.Again I am so sorry for all of us to have to be in this position and then we have the health issues. When will it get better ? Hugs to you all.Hugs are good.
I hear you girl!I work 2 days per week.I found an employer that pays benefits on 20 hours.Works out great since I have my 92 yr.old mother living with me.But I earned too much money last year and now I have to repay them $945.aIN'T THAT A KICK IN THE A--!!!
Kathleen - Check w/SS & see if they won't deduct what they "overpaid" from future checks. I got notice a few mos ago they overpaid me $497, & I had to repay. I called & learned they could deduct it from my 1st ck of year (Sept - which I don't get until Oct) A friend I work with was notified she was overpaid over $2,000, & they are deducting around $200 mo from her husband's SS. See if this will work for you

That's what they're going to do.And reduce my monthly amount by $92 a month.Ain't life Grand!In 5 years I can earn as much as I want,In 5 years I hope I'm not working!!
I'm sorry that all of us has to go through the financial burdens along with our loss. It seems that the governent can bail out all of the big banks and companies and fail to help us out who really need it. I too was given the fantastic amount of $225 death benefit when Brad passed away, where did that get me? I got to pay the electric bill! I was told in 2 years I will get Brad's SS checks, but have no idea what that will be. Until then, I'm struggling, I'm self employed and I get commission only thats not working so I'm trying to find another job where I will be paid regularly, but who wants to hire a 58 yr old woman?? If I'm lucky enough to find a job, I'll probably have to work till I'm 70 if I live that long just to survive. I wish you all luck in trying to get through this life and be comfortable. Hugs to all of you!
I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL OF US, THAT IS JUST TRYING TO GET OVER A HORRIBLE LOSS, AND THEN HAVING TO DEAL WITH FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES. GOD BLESS US ALL.
Thanks to all of you for your kind comments & prayers. It is sad we have to deal with financial difficulities along with the loss of our loved one. Something about that isn't fair - oh yeah, it's our "wonderful" government trying to keep all our spouses $ to give to illegial imigrantes, etc, rather than what the social security was originally estabished for. VOTE ALL OUT OF CONGRESS IN NOV!!! Let's start over, these people in there now DO NOT CARE FOR US, THE AMERICAL PEOPLE.
AMEN LINDA!!!!!!!

I agree with you 100%.
I was disabled in oct. of 08 my DR. told me to apply for my s s disabilty, my husband was disabled in 99 and s s fought him for 2 yrs. and 7 months he finally was awarded it after a hearing before a judge, so we knew it was going to be a battle for me. I applied for my pension and was waiting for it to be approved as I applied for disabilty pension even tho I had 32 yrs. in I wasn't old enough without taking a big penilty but if it was due to a disabilty you didn't get a penilty but it had to be approved, when I was working I was making almost $ 22.00 a hr. well I got aproved for my s s first time out wow and then was approved for my pension, great, everything was to start in May but was for April, boy we would be setting pretty right well mike passed 4-29-09 and yep had to give back his s s and didn't get the stimuless money because he wasn't alive when they cut the checks but I did get the 250.00 bueral money big whoop. so I went to apply for a widows benifit thru s s and at first they are like no you don't qualify for it but after insiting I was they finally gave it to me because they knew I knew what I was talking about, if you are disabled and 50 yrs. old you are intilted to it on your husbands earnings even tho it wasn't nowhere near what he was getting at least I get something, but loosing his income was a big difference. it's a shame they try to screw you if you don't know what your intilted to.
