My beautiful nephew who was 24 - took his life early Tuesday morning. Our entire family is in total shock and disbelief. Although we know he is gone - it seems he's going to walk through the door or give us a call. We NEVER saw this coming. He seemed like a happy young adult - forever with a smile on his face and a kind word. We realize the pain we are in for loosing him - but our pain is nothing in comparison as to the pain he was in- forever he is gone - but never will he be forgotten.

BRT,
It always hurts to hear another name added to the suicide forum and it always seems extra sad when it is a young person. 24 is still so young. I offer you my condolences, and if you want to share more about your nephew, I am here to listen. Suicide can be the occurance from a long planned event or something so spur of the moment it defies logic. Not that suicide makes any sense to a healthy mind. Im sorry your nephew was in so much pain....

Today was the absolute worst !!!! We laid him to rest. Now he is at peace and his pain is gone. Our pain will continue and our hearts will always ache- But it's not about us- It's selfish of us to want him back and remember his smiling face and kind gentle nature- But my heart tells me that this was God's plan for our beloved Trae- He will always be remembered and never forgotten. We love you ..............

Sue,

You are absolutely right. Many thought, talked, planned or even secretly did it ( failed) before. They appeared a normal happy person, they go to work, doctor appointment, and do what they always do. However, underneath, they were in so much pain that ending it was the only solution in their mind.

Im so sorry for your loss, I know what you are going through. My husband took his own life June 3rd this year and we have 2 little girls together and he was only 28 yrs old. No one will ever know why people do this when they have so much to live for. I cant tell you or anyone in your family how you will EVER get over this because for me I dont see an end to the pain. I will tell you what everyone else has told me and that is as time goes on it will ease your pain. You will never forget who he really was, what he did doesnt define him. You are right when you say the pain we are in will never compair to the pain he was feeling and I believe that with my whole heart. Some people just dont see the light at the end of the tunnel and feels life is better off without them here and WE all know thats far from the truth but thats not how they see it. Some family members/friends will be mad at him for what he did and thats normal, for me I havent hit that stage yet. Im just very very sad and feel that Im forgetting him as my husband and best friend for 11 years. Stay strong and stick with your family and friends through this hard time. Dont keep your feelings inside, you have to talk about it and be open with your feelings. Holding them in will only make matters worse. Just think no matter what he is watching over you and your family from Heaven every second of every day and he may not be here with us but he lives on through our hearts. I will you all the best of luck and I will say a prayer for your family.
Christine,
I know how hard it is to raise kids alone and Im really sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the pain of losing a spouse. I do know the pain of a loss to suicide. This is so new for you, and you must be raw with emotion. Perhaps even in shock still. I am sorry you have reason to join this group but I am glad you found us.
Yes your pain will ease as time goes on, but you will forever be a changed person. That doesnt mean you will never have happiness, or enjoy your life.
You spoke quite beautifully about your husband up in heaven ....Im sorry hes not down here with his family. I know none of us can say exactly why they do it, but I gotta believe it was a malfunction in the brain, a cancer of the mind. Thats what is stealing our loved ones. You are right, dont let his one last act define his whole life...good for you, because he was surely much more than that.

BRT
I hope today was a better day.

First let me say how sorry I am for your loss. I lost my 26-year-old son, Joey, to suicide on June 26, 2008 so I and everybody else on this site do truly know how you feel. Joey seemed like one of the happiest people in the world. When he died, his family and I and everyone who knew him was in such shock and disbelief. I wish I could have helped him and eased the pain he was in during his much-too-brief life. I still cry every day for Joey. I miss him more than I could ever believe possible. You are correct when you say your nephew will never be forgotten because you will remember him and your memories will be happy ones in time. Please know we are all here to support you when you have to rant or scream or cry. Love and hugs,
Debbie
