Grief Poetry: The Angel of Patience

A poem for grieving, coping with death, healing

The Angel of Patience
by Elizabeth Akers Allen

Beside the toilsome way
Lonely and dark, by fruits and flowers unblest,
Which my feet tread sadly, day by day,
Longing in vain for rest.

An angel softly walks,
With pale sweet face, and eye cast meekly down,
The while from withered leaves and flowerless stalks
She weaves my fitting crown.

A sweet and patient grace,
A look of firm endurance, true and tried,
Of suffering meekly borne, rests on her face
So pure – so glorified.

And when my fainting heart
Desponds and murmurs at its adverse fate,
Then quietly the angel’s bright lips part,
Murmuring softly, “Wait!

‘Patience!’ she sweetly saith, -
The Father’s mercies never come too late;
Gird thee with patient strength and trusting faith,
And firm endurance, - wait!”

Angel! behold, I wait,
Wearing the thorny crown through all life’s hours, -
Wait till thy hand shall ope the eternal gate,
And change the thorns to flowers!

So lovely, touching and true. As you mourn in that deep lost aching darkness, somehow a little

small voice is trying to comfort you but when deep in pain all senses are dimmed but if you have

seen your angles wonder before you are never abandoned. Most Beautiful they are to me and the many wonders they do, unbeknownst to the unaware of their silent but potent blessings.

Oh the Heavens are lined with such beauty because God can not create anything but pure

beauty. And although you must go thru the pain to reach it, I pray for Lord's grace and will

to reach to him and all my loves who dwell with him. I always need my Angel's and pray

they always stay near and hope everyone realizes their Angel is always nearby.Calling all

Angels and thankiing you for your constant loyalty and love...............
