Losing someone close to you can be a painful and traumatic experience. And if someone you know is grieving, you may be struggling with what to say or looking for some additional ways you can offer support. Here are some additional resources that can help you, or someone you care about, cope with the death of a loved one.

Poetry When someone you love dies, the grief you feel can be overwhelming. Reading or writing poetry can be a helpful way to express and release emotions. In this section, you will find poems about death and dying, and poems for grieving and healing.

Grief and Loss Organizations

The American Association of Suicidology (AAS) strives to understand and prevent suicide, and offers many resources for survivors of suicide to help them cope with loss.


The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy.


 

The American Hospice Foundation supports programs that serve the needs of terminally ill and grieving individuals of all ages. Find a hospice near you.

 

The Center for Grief Recovery (Chicago, IL) is a full service counseling center helping persons who are dealing with emotionally intense experiences such as grief, loss, trauma, depression or abuse.

 

The Compassionate Friends assists families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and provides information to help others be supportive.

 

The Institute for the Study and Treatment of Loss (Warwick, RI) A dedicated staff of experienced and licensed clinicians offer professional outpatient mental health services for a wide variety of issues, including grief and loss, coping with bereavement, illness and injury, anxiety and stress, and depression.

 

The Shiva Foundation is an organization dedicated to education and support for those dealing with loss and death.
