Married only 15 months and lost my husband

Mark & I met the summer of 2004 and were married November 2005. He didn't smoke, was very healthily and ran in marathons. Shortly after we were married he complained he just didn't feel well. By spring 2006 he was diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma in stage 4. After chemo and a bone marrow transplant he lost his battle with cancer and died at home April 3, 2007. This was a first for me. I had never even seen a dead person before, much less watch it happen. One can never be prepared for such an event.

Thankfully we were both Christians, which is the only thing that got us through this horrible nightmare. Our church family has been supportive and wonderful. Had it not been for the love the church showed me, I can say with almost certainty, I would not have made it through this without them.

Recently, I was asked to take over an existing grief support group, because our facilitator was unable to continue doing it. This is a “GriefShare” group, which is a national Christian based series of videos, workbooks and group discussion. For those of you facing the grief from a death of a loved one, I would highly recommend finding a "GriefShare" support group in your area. Just to go www.griefshare.org and you can find information about the support group and locate one in your community.

When you're are grieving, seems like the non-grievers are uncomfortable talking about the deceased person, they avoid you, don't know what to say or they say something stupid that is offensive without meaning to be mean.

The support groups really help most people and it's a safe place to cry, vent, talk, listen, learn and most importantly, THEY GET IT AND UNDERSTAND, when everyone else doesn’t.

May God be with each and every one of you through this painful journey and know he will comfort you. It just takes some time.
