I feel for you and your lost! I lost my Dad in 2007 and still it is painful and ,,oh,,how I miss his words of wisdom. what I have come to learn is not to expect to just banish all thoughts or any thoughts of my Dad. In the course of some of my conversation - I make acknowledgment to some of the sound advice he gave me. It lessen the pain as I speak with confidence and love of the person who was so near and dear to me. I obeyed God's commandment to "honor my parents" (Exodus 20:12) and did not forsake my parents in their latter years.
I always felt that my parents "would always be there for me." My Dad was such a brave and strong man - that I knew realistically - he was not going to live forever - due to man's imperfection (Romans 5:12) However, I never thought that one day - in my life that he would be gone. I still love him and have some beautiful throughts to hold onto.
