Planning for your digital afterlife

Most of us know that it's a good idea to have a will. Many consult estate planning experts or attorneys to help us preserve, distribute or dissolve assets following our death. We also may create lists to help our loved ones know what to do and how to handle our affairs if we become incapacitated. Or, at least, we mean to.

But do our loved…

How Do We Respect Each Other Belief In Respects To Death

Death is a subject that is a reality to all of us.

We all have various means in which we cope with the loss of a love one.

However, how do we try to understand and show compassion during these hard times eventhough their belief system may be a little different from our.   Showing love and compassion can do more for a person when they are grieving then trying to pull them over into your belief pattern in respect to the dead.   (1 John 4:8)  Sometimes, just a hug will go a long…

“Everything is Copy” — an Homage to Nora Ephron

This Nov. 3, 2010 file photo shows author, screenwriter and director Nora Ephron at her home in New York. Publisher Alfred A. Knopf confirmed Tuesday, June 26, 2012, that author and filmmaker Nora Ephron died Tuesday of leukemia in New York. She was 71. (AP Photo/Charles Sykes, file) Nora Ephron was forever young and forever funny. And all of a sudden, she’s gone!

So many of us could relate to her writings, musings, movies and books – not to mention a failed marriage or botched film that made her really human to her fans. When I was starting my own writing career in Washington, D.C. in the early 1970s, she was writing essays for…

Lost the most important man in my life..my granddad-my dad

My granddad went to the hospital 2 weeks ago after I called 911 because he was had a fever and was weak. Soon after he was admitted to ICU and fell into a coma. My family wanted me to visit him, but I just kept saying he'd be okay and would be home soon. 2 days later he recovered and was moved into a regular room with the doctor saying he'd be coming home later that week. On 6/20/12 my fiancee told me he needed to take me to see my granddad, I expected to suprise him and get one of his huge…

A Broken Heart Doesn’t Show

“We are the walking wounded. Our lives are seemingly normal for those looking at us from the outside, but we know differently – for a broken heart doesn’t show from the outside,” said a participant in my grief support group. It is true that life continues following the death of a loved one. Groceries still need to be bought and clothes laundered. Jobs require our attendance and our attention. Little league games, dance recitals, graduations and weddings still take place. For those…

Thanks

It's human nature to want to be understood and to have a connection with others you can relate to.  I am so grateful I found this online support.  Thank you everyone for sharing your stories and for understanding.  Sometimes I have glimpses that maybe I can get through this.  I start a support group next week and I am certainly looking forward to it.  Thank you everyone for being here for me!

Depressed

I am having a very difficult day today. I have to have a rooter guy come out and there seems to be a problem I thought I was over the anger at my Babe for leaving me but when things come up I am lost. All I did was go to work and he took care of everything else now I just want to scream Babe what should I do but all I can do is cry Do you ever get tired of crying? I know he did not leave me on purpose and he would not want me to have to deal with anything like this but it is not helping my…

Healing

My father died a month ago. Its been very hard for me each day.  He was the best father ever. He raise his family like a man should he cared for all his brothers and sisters & his children.  When his health began to fell I was there to take care of him.  He took care of me now it was time for me to take care of him.  Now its hard to let go and heal. It doesn't seem real that hes gone.  But I have to let go and heal.  What to do.  He was my best friend and dad we talked about every thing.…

can't believe he's gone

Hello everyone, I'm new at this.  I've been trying to find a support group and it seems the next group I can attend is not until July 2nd.  My husband who was also my best friend, travel partner, confidant, laugh and hang out buddy passed June 7th and it is very hard to deal with this.  It doesn't feel real.  I'm trying to reach out and find support and hear other's stories because I do realize not wanting to live anymore is not healthy.  It is so uncharacteristic of me.  I'm a life loving…

Father's Day: One Year Later

O Muses, O high genius, now assist me!

O memory, that didst write down what I saw,

Here thy nobility shall be manifest!

Writing a Condolence Note About Someone Who Changed Your Life

Q. I am thinking of sending a condolence message to a neighbor I knew decades ago. I just heard that her father passed away last November. If I had known at that time, I would have attended his funeral even though it would have involved a very long car trip to another state. I do have fond memories of this man, who was a kind and caring person. When I knew him I was a teenager and on the school debating team. He was a big fan and cut out articles from the local paper any time…

Father and Son, Pure and True

Assuming that every day should and could be Father’s Day, it’s not too late to take note of a good dad’s day story I want to pass along – something I heard Sunday on Bob Edwards Weekend (Public Radio International) that really offered a touching footnote for the day.

Edwards was interviewing…

In late January of 2010 I got the news that my father had a tumor and he had to have surgery. But the catch was the tumor was in his thyroid and they had to remove it and get all the cancer. Well on February 9th 2010, he called to tell me he loved me and…

Roads Merge, the Journey Changes

It’s hard to write about grief when you find there are a million other things you could be writing about. And that’s why this blog has been quiet for two months.

I felt the transition begin several years ago. There was a jolt inside me one day reminding me of the writer I always wanted to be. Life was telling me not to forget who I was at my core, that I didn’t want to stray too far from my original journey and wake up one day and realize what I missed out on. And…

First Father's Day without you....

Today is the first father's day without my dad. I still can't believe it...I decided to go through a few home videos today to try and get a glimpse of your face...your smile...your mannerisms....Oh how I miss all those parts of you. You made me laugh, made me feel safe, and gave me unconditional love...and I love you to infinity daddy. I will always be daddy's little girl, no matter how old I get. I've been a mess all day, actually it started yesterday, just thinking about the significance…
