I'm a graduate student in Medical Anthropology at UCSF/UC Berkeley, and my dissertation research looks at grieving online. The idea emerged out of the experience of losing my own father, who died unexpectedly 2 years ago. My project specifically explores how accessing sites such as online memorials, Facebook profiles, and digital archives might allow people to feel connected to loved ones who have passed away. If you visit a particular website or sites to connect with a loved one who has passed, please consider participating in my research. Hi Debbie,

Thanks for you support, and I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I would love to hear more about your experiences with Grief Share as well as with the Legacy Connect group. I'll send you a message shortly about participating. Until then, I'm sending my care and condolences.

Dear Molly, I echo Chuck's sentiments and applaud you for choosing this topic for your dissertation. I am sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your father and send along my sincere condolences.

I lost my husband suddenly on July 22, 2015. I attended Grief Share and it helped. Nevertheless, it wasn't until I stumbled upon this group that I began to heal. The members of this group are Godsends. We care and we want only the best for each other.

I would be happy to participate in any way you deem helpful. Best regards, Debbie

Thanks so much for your kind words about my father. I just mourned the second anniversary of his passing, which has been a difficult time.

I am indeed hoping that the project will improve the support available for those who have lost loved ones, and perhaps contribute to changing the way that we deal with grief as a society. I will be contacting you shortly about participating in the research.

Take care.

Hello Molly,

I'm sorry for your loss of your father - that his passing led you to the idea of doing your dissertation on online grieving seems quite natural, even an organic process if you will. I am interested in the project, and would consider participating if there is anything from my experience that would contribute to your research , and mostly if it would in any way lead to more outreach and availability of support for others who have lost loved ones and find themselves searching for a  connection as did I.

I will try to visit the website (I'm a bit tech challenged - one of the aspects that may be of interest to you - so any advice or assistance is appreciated.

Good luck, and again my condolences on your loss -

Chuck Nelson
