Florencio R. “Cho” Torres Born May 4, 1956 in Noveleta, Cavite, Philippines passed away at his home in Union City, CA due to heart complication on April 26, 2009 at the age of 52. Cho is survived by his wife Estrellita Andres, whom he lived with for almost 16 years, his four step-children Michelle Amores, Macky Anthony Bayquen, Minette Bayquen, and Meilin Bayquen, and his seven step-grandchildren, Jasmine, Jessica, Mikayla, Joel, Michael Brice, Mathias, and Mikani. For 20 years, Cho worked as an assembler in the Bay Area. He immigrated in the US in 1988 and started his first career in the US working as an assembler at Everex Corp. where he met Estrellita. The bond between them started as a friendship. He became Estrellita’s confidant and a true friend. From the moment they met, Cho never took his eyes off Estrellita. Cho was a good man. He accepted Estrellita for what she is. He took her hands and became the foundation where she can start to build a new life. Meilin, who was only 2 at the time, became really close to Cho. Cho stood in as a father to Meilin until the day she gave birth to her first child, Joel. Cho also stood in as a father to Joel, a great father indeed. Not only did he prove himself as a good friend, he proved himself as a great husband, father and a grand-father. He nurtured the family and called them his own. During the last few years of his life he spent many happy days tending to his Cockatiel birds, comforting Meilin during the passing of her fiancé (Nathan Tuatasi), taking care of his two grandsons (Joel and Mathias), singing, and playing the guitar for his choir group at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and making sure Estrellita Andres is well taken care of. After his major heart attack in 2008 (stent were placed in the two blocked arteries), it was necessary for him to quit his job and take care of the family at home, which was also a big responsibility, but it was his joy to be with the children. Those that knew him were touched deeply by his friendship, passion for music, kindness and love. His contagious smile will be missed by everyone and will never be forgotten. Family and friends are invited to attend a Viewing on Monday, May 4, 2009 from 4-8:30pm, Tuesday May 5 from 10am-8:30pm with Vigil at 7pm, Holy Angels Funeral Center/Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 510-581-2488 and Funeral Mass is held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 10:00am, Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 "C" Street, Union City, CA 94587, followed by a burial at Holy Angels (location: Holy Redeemer).
