I am curious if I would benefit from some sort of antidepressants. I have never been on anything like that and I have no idea what they do. Will they take some of the pain away? Will they make me stop crying? Make me numb? What are the effects of these meds? If any of you are on antidepressants can you tell me what they do for YOU?

So sorry for your loss, pippa. The loss of your Liza is so new and we've all been there. I lost my heart 9 1/2 months ago from lung cancer. Zanx has kept me sane......it does not dull the pain or loneness, but it keeps me from going over the edge.
I too, also take zanex. It helps me to sleep at night. After almost 15 months it takes the edge off. Nothing will take away the pain and lonliness from our loss. Maybe someday, somehow, our grief and sadness will ease up. So far its not.
Hi, I also take wellbutrin.I was put on it to quit smoking because the Ins. pays for it and not the other things, after my husband passed my pcp put me on zanaz but I wouldn't take them till about 3 months ago when I thought I'd go crazy from the crying and super depression so I started taking it only once a day and believe me I wouldn't be able to get thru this without them I've tried only to fall back into the black hole so talk to your DR.

Liza died three weeks ago today and it feels incredible to me that I have lived through this much time in so much pain and have survived-am surviving- to live another day.
I believe in the efficacy of antidepressants and am an advocate for their use. They regulate chemicals in the brain and thank god for that- I know that without Wellbutrin , my brain would be as awash in poison as Liza's body was at the last.
There is no reason for people not to avail themselves of advances in medicine to ease pain-talk to your doctor about what they feel is best for you.
good luck.
