Today my daughter in law (wife of our middle son) had an ultrasound today and the baby is a boy.  He was sucking his thumb at 5 months gestation.  We did a skipe call because they live about an hour and a half away.  The most precious news is that they plan to name him after my husband that died.  I know he is beaming with pride - the baby is due towards the end of October and my husband died suddenly on November 5th.  This baby couldn't come at a better time.

On another note my 6 year old grand-daughter that has muscular dystrophy is finally home after being at Motts Children's Hospital (UOM) for almost 4 weeks due to pneumonia, etc.  She is still pretty weak and will probably need a tracheotomy and be set up on a ventilator(life support) in the very near future.  I was so afraid we were going to lose her during this last hospital stay.  She is such a beautiful child and our hearts break for her.  Her disease has been very progressive.  My husband was someone she really loved and they had a very special bond.  I thought right away after he died that he is going to be Michaela's welcoming committee when the time comes for her and also to bring us some comfort knowing she is with her papa.  It is so heartbreaking to see her suffer and watch my son and daughter in law (our oldest son) suffer.  I attached a picture of her from last year.  I have grandma days with my grandchildren and we went to the Michigan Museum of History - life is short and creating happy memories is so important.

She is a beautiful girl, I dont know why these things happen to children. I losy my wife alst year, and my Mom in Feb and somehow I am keeping it together somewhat. But if anything ever happened to one of my grandkids I dont think I could handle it. She will be in my prayers. May God give you strength.

Sheryl,

Congratulations on your soon to be baby grandson.  How perfect that they are going to name the baby after his Papa.  That is a wonderful way to honor your husband.  Our daughter had a baby a year after we lost Tom and she named her little one Lilyanna Tommi, after her Grandpa.  I love knowing that no matter what, she will always carry a piece of the Grandpa she never had a chance to know in this life with her.  Our older daughter wants to name her first baby girl (whenever that may happen) Tommilyn, again to honor her dad.  I'm not sure if she actually will or if we are wearing out the Tommi name, but I love that they love and miss their dad so much that they want to continue to honor him.

I am glad to hear that your granddaughter is finally home, but I am so sorry to hear that she will most likely need a vent.  Thank you for sharing her picture...She is so precious.  My heart breaks for all of you having to watch her struggle so.  Love the "Grandma Days"...hang on tight to all of the memories you are making.  You are all in my prayers for strength and comfort...(and lots more time).

Peace and blessings to you.

Pretty little girl.

Thank you - I appreciate the prayers.  I know what you mean about trying to cope with the loss of a grandchild.  I can't bear to think about it knowing the pain that will bring to my son, daughter in law, her brother and sister and the rest of us.  I actually have three grandchildren with life threatening disease (the other two have cystic fibrosis and are the children of our youngest son) the other two are doing fine right now we just have to give them lots of preventative care with breathing treatments, meds, etc.  Michaela is truly suffering from this awful disease and the best way to describe my feelings is that it feels like I have a knife in my heart when I think of losing her.

Thanks Marlena - That is really sweet how your daughters are finding a way to honor their father.  I have a very good friend (female) who's name is Tommie.  She is a person of great character and a kind heart and I've always thought it was a cute name.   Thanks for the prayers!
