I would like to attend.   When I click the link I get an error message.  Please email me with a registration pack.  I lost Jack on 4-14-10 to Multiple Myeloma after a 7 year battle.  It is almost a year and while I manage to go to work &  be productive, I am drinking too much wine nightly and eating way too much of everything.  Learning to move through this loss is critical to the rest of my life.  I owe it to Jack & our family to move through.  Thanks.

For those dealing with bereavement in San Diego there is an ongoing NIMH funded study at the VA hospital in La Jolla looking at grief. The overall purpose of this study is to determine response to antidepressant medication administered with and without a grief therapy treatment. If you are interested contact information can be found at;

At some time during your grief journey, you will reach a fork in the road. One will move you forward towards empowerment -- that is, you will use your grief to move you forward into a successful "new normal" -- and one will leave you paralyzed and not knowing what to do and where to turn.

Robin Craig will be speaking at Camp Widow, and her topic is Empowerment Through Adversity.

Robin Craig was widowed 4-1/2 years ago after a 21-year marriage. Most of her family predeceased her husband and she has no children, so few were available to assist her with the challenges of widowhood. She's had water in her house twice, possums and raccoons in her attic, a home burglary, an obscene caller, she weathered a Category 2 hurricane home alone and killed the world's largest rat singlehandedly...just for starters! Despite the craziness and amidst the pain of the sudden, unexpected loss of her soul mate, this TV Producer went on to reach the pinnacle of her career winning two national daytime Emmys.

As a motivational speaker, her unique message comes from the heart and Robin's ability to speak with empathy and humor delight her audiences. You will gain insight, courage and hope for a brighter tomorrow coupled with a strong desire for personal growth and empowerment through your own adversity.

Another speaker at Camp Widow will be Abigail Carter, author of The Alchemy of Loss. She will tell her story of rebuilding a life for her and her two children after losing her husband in The World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Abigail will share her personal challenges and the coping strategies she used to navigate through the new world in which she found herself. She will help her listeners to see the potential for growth in the experience of loss and how to navigate the mire of grief and turn it into something magical.

Hello! I thought I would feature some of the workshops that will be available at Camp Widow 2010. This presentation will give you some strategies on how to aid your children with their grief.

Little Tears: Developmental Stages of Childhood Grief
Dr. Michele Reiss, PhD, RN (

This presentation will describe childhood grief both in terms of how it is expressed, and how best to meet the needs of grieving children. Children often understand death differently than their adult counterparts; their initial emotional and behavioral reactions can vary from what one might expect. Understanding the developmental aspects of normal grief helps family members adequately comfort their grieving children. During this presentation, Dr. Reiss will explore how very young children, school age children and then adolescents might experience and react to a significant loss. Possible strategies to aid grieving children of these varied age groups will be explored, as well as how to prepare young children for an impending family death, and potential warning signs that might signal a need for further intervention. The hopeful message of this workshop is that grieving children who are surrounded by love and consistency will not just survive this difficult loss experience, but perhaps be strengthened by it.
