Grief and Resurrection

When we are in pain and anguish it is helpful to remember our resurrection is coming and then to be gentle with ourselves.

When grieving it is especially important to not expect ourselves to feel any differently and to know that it will indeed pass.
Grieving however does not pass all of a sudden.  Grieving comes and goes, it is a healing process.…

Thursdays With Tim

In my elementary school we didn't have a designated classroom for the art teacher, Miss Tyminski.  Instead, she would wheel around a cart laden with tempera paint, construction paper, scissors, glue and so on from one classroom to the next - for me Thursdays were always the day I could count on seeing her.  She was very pretty and very mod: dressed a lot like Samantha's…

Suicide in South Korea

I ran across an interesting article regarding suicide today.."More than a quarter of all suicides in South Korea were committed by people 65 years of age or older. Reasons: attitudes towards the care of elderly and economic factors. Less than half of people in Korea think that children should care for your parents- AWAKE MAY 2015

The same attitude may be evident here in the US...How sad !What about the principle honor your mother and father ?- Eph 6:2

Rory why?

My Love,  This is a letter to Rory, I hope you get this in heaven.

You left me in the middle of the night on May 12th.  I came home from work that night with nothing in my heart but love for you. So when we talked on the phone earlier in the day and you told me I was a good girl for getting the landlord to come out and look at our plumbing problems in our mobile home park, I knew you were very happy.  In that same phone call you told me not to wake you when I got home from…

Chering Tim

It was a joke among us how Tim would be so precise all the time - if Tim was to meet you somewhere it would be at 11:32 AM, not 11:30 or 11:30-ish or Before Noon, no it was 11:32, set your watch.  I received a text a few weeks ago from one of our friends: "I'm making a recipe that I think Tim must have created.  Directions are to bake at 374 degrees for 38 minutes.  What?!?!"

Last summer Tim surprised me with tickets to a concert.  He really disliked public events - the event itself…

Encourage not Discourage

Some of us get down when people say " I know how you feel"... We need a little more compassion (1 Peter 3:8) Instead say, I am happy to see you or its good to see you today....Also its best not to say are you doing okay..." Nope I am not okay!"... Oh well, we are all imperfect and we mean well.

MacArthur Park Eat Your Heart Out

May 23rd, 2014 - Baker Lake, Mount Baker.

Tim was bound and determined to bake me a birthday cake at our campsite despite the leaky bug tent and pouring rain that didn't stop the entire trip.  He'd sneaked a box mix of carrot cake and ready-to-smear frosting into the provisions we picked up on our way.  With his Coleman camp stove and Coleman camp stove collapsible oven he pulled off the impossible.

Tim always celebrated my birthday with gusto.  Sometimes he'd surprise me with…

Tim and his kids, Hoover and Rita.

They love their Daddy very much and they miss him.

"Daddy" was sorta a joke between us... Tim being 'Daddy' and me being 'Other Daddy'.   We appreciated them equally but like most pet owners we liked to assign human traits to them, sorta a joke...

But not really.   It's not a joke when you're the one who needs someone to take care of you, when what you need…

Q. I've been asked to speak at a memorial service for an employee of my company. I barely knew him, as I only recently started working here. How can I come up with something…

The Indomitable Snow Man

That's my Tim in the photo.  This was taken near our house in Seattle during one of our rare snow days.  And that's Bailey's with very little coffee in his travel cup.

Tim was rare, illusive, a real life snow man - he never complained about snow, he loved it, and would stay up late into the night to watch it fall, hoping it'd be measured in feet, sometimes (dangerously) waking me to tell me it's "snowing to beat shit!", excited to go out and just be in it.  Even cancer couldn't keep…

Mother's Day without you again and Forever.

They say it gets easier with time. They say the pain will subside. They say move on, "the living have to go on living" They lie.

I spent another Mother's Day with no one to send flowers to, or call, or be mad at, or be with. Only the memories that would bubble to the surface with a few tears…

Mom in the Kitchen

If you ask someone to share a memory of their mom, chances are it involves food. Nothing triggers more memories of mom than her cooking. For many of us, it’s a favorite recipe or it could be the time we spent in the warm kitchen where we felt safe and sheltered.

I was blessed with a mom who was a wonderful cook. My childhood…
