I stand before you to deliver these words of memorial; words that are to celebrate the life of Timothy. Although read and spoken by me, are from Timothy’s mother and father. There are no words of solace;…

I lost my husband of 10 years to an accidental drowning. This was my second marriage and it brought back my faith in love and marriage since my first one of 21 years ended in divorce. Bruce was a devoted husband to me and made me feel cherished and loved, the way we all should. I was devestated when he died but I can certainly attest to the power of friends and family,…

I have studied and offered healing techniques to those who grieve as a way to help ease the daily pain that is the companion of loss. Recently life created the unwelcome opportunity for me to witness the power of this process from the inside out. We all will suffer a loss during our lifetime. Each loss carries with it different circumstances, but there are still some strategies we can use to help us cope and heal.
Here are some steps you can take to help you navigate…

When Timmy was one year old, I started buying him Hot Wheels. At first it started with the Happy Meals at McDonald’s. I would stop at the McDonald’s near Girard Avenue and buy the Happy Meal, eat the burger, fries, and slurp down the soda just to get the toy car for my son. Timmy enjoyed playing with the Hot Wheels and Matchbox. I started going to Toys R Us just to find…

Dave,
I wish I could be with you today, to thank you again for the gift of your love.
You are the friend that captured my heart and I never dreamed today we’d be apart.
Thank you so much for helping me to be strong; you lifted my spirits and gave me a song.
You brought joy to my life in so many ways; your love was a gift I treasure in my heart today.
Thank you for so many memories of love and laughter and for those three little boys we both had to chase…

Last week, Canada lost a national heroine. Betty Fox began her time in the spotlight simply as the mother of one of Canada's best-remembered heroes, Terry Fox, who, after being diagnosed with cancer in his late teens, attempted to run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. An amazing story made all the more…

My great-grandparents died three weeks apart to the day. I knew it would happen, after all they were getting older, but I never expected it when I got the phone call from my Mom. I remember it rained the day of both of their memorial services and it seemed to suit the moods of everyone there. They both had touched so many lives through their generosity, kindness, and their big hearts. They were very loved.
About three months or so after they passed away I was walking through Dollar…

Like most kids, the Power Rangers were a part of my Timmy’s television favorites. It started with the repeats of the original series and the subsequent series. Tim’s toy chest was filled with Power Ranger action figures and Zords, the separate vehicles of each Power Ranger that would combine to giant robot…

This week my thoughts will be devoted to the upcoming birthday of my German Shepherd dog Daisy who died a year and a half ago. Daisy came to me as a puppy at a 5K-road race. It was the last one I attended, realizing that entrance fees would get expensive if I kept bringing stray dogs home.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, she was a very special dog, the kind of dog that we feel lucky to have in our lives. She didn’t ask for much. She wasn’t a fan of being…

For several weeks, I’ve been finding a coin a day. On Wednesday and Friday, I found a quarter each morning, unusual because I usually find dimes and pennies. On Friday night it was two pennies. Then Saturday morning it was another penny. While most of these were out on my walks or my run, a few of them were as I walked into a store.
After the coin Saturday morning, I realized that they were about Father’s Day. And it made me wonder, would I find a coin on Father’s Day…
