After my fathers service the flowers ended up at my house. My brother call and said they were all meant to go to his family because they were from their side. That hurt me a lot. Am I wrong to feel this way?

(Isaiah 41:10) Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.’
(Isaiah 41:13) For I, Jehovah your God, am grasping your right hand, The One saying to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you.’
May everyone draw comfort from this promise. when you are feeling…

Q. When a dear friend died several months ago, many of her friends (including me) had no idea what had happened. She lived abroad (alone), but stayed in touch — until she didn’t. It was as if she had vanished. We were left in limbo with so many unanswered questions. We only recently found out the…

Q: I find that my relationships with some couple friends have changed dramatically since I’ve been widowed. In some cases, I’ve been dropped entirely from their social calendar; in others the wife is available for lunch or dinner only during the week and only alone. Is there anything I can do about…

Just when we think we’ve seen or heard it all about death these days, there is more to learn, to love and to laugh at about the way people are impacted and/or reacting to life’s final moments. Funerals are lightening up, obituaries are good reads going viral, dying days sometimes feature celebrations with friends, people’s…

I just wanted to write a little about an event that has happened.
My 67 year old brother is gay and had been in a stable partnership with J for 30 years when suddenly J became ill with a chest infection and admitted to hospital but died therein.
This has been a shock for my brother and surprisingly for myself. Although straight and married I wanted to say I feel that I have lost a sister-in-law rather than a mere acquaintance.
I am also slightly concerned about any…

I just suddenly lost my sister at age 51. She was living with me and my husband and mother at my house for the past 2 years. She lived in another state for 30 years before that and became injured after a car accident. Her life the past 14 years was riddled with pain and depression. Her marriage ended and she became financially unstable. She had recently been diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year. I saw her the night before she died and she looked happy and beautiful and was looking…

When we hear sad news we want to help, but we often do not know how. Instead of figuring out a way to help we say, “Call me if you need anything.” Individuals facing difficult times frequently find it difficult to put one foot in front of the other; they do not have energy to call and even if they did, they probably would not know what to ask for. So…

Just looking for advice and support with regards my 67 year old older brother who lost his partner John of 30 years in the UK.
Just wondered if there were any good specific bereavement guides for this type of life event?
I am quite emphatic but my brother is stiff upper lip, know what I mean?
Regards
Peter

On Labor Day, September 1, 2014, my beautiful 20 year old daughter, Madeline was killed in a car accident. It occured about 5 miles from our home, a cloudburst erupted; a freak rainstorm. She hit a truck head on and her car burst into flames, she was identified through dental records. It was 11 years to the day, my father, her grandfather passed away.
Madeline was every parent's dream; never gave us a problem to speak of. She was on her way to her 3rd job; a job she loved…

The fashion shows recently rolled out in New York, London and Milan reminded me of a fashion show of an entirely different sort I attended last year in Montana. It was during a week of seminars and workshops on aging issues, and I was invited to present ObitKit: A Guide to Celebrating Your Life, which I created to help people chronicle their…

When we think of the bereaved, we most often include the primary relationships, such as: husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, son or daughter. Other family relationships that may come to mind include grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle or cousin as well as godchild, godmother or godfather.
It is these…
