May 23rd, 2014 - Baker Lake, Mount Baker.

Tim was bound and determined to bake me a birthday cake at our campsite despite the leaky bug tent and pouring rain that didn't stop the entire trip.  He'd sneaked a box mix of carrot cake and ready-to-smear frosting into the provisions we picked up on our way.  With his Coleman camp stove and Coleman camp stove collapsible oven he pulled off the impossible. 

Tim always celebrated my birthday with gusto.  Sometimes he'd surprise me with big events like the biplane (I must have one) flight over and around Seattle with a surprise party awaiting back at our apartment or the Big Secret vacation trip with seven of our closest friends, me not knowing where we were headed until we changed planes in LA, final destination: Costa Rica. 

But between those spectacular celebrations were the little ones - camping trips, a dump truck load of fresh garden soil, spaghetti for breakfast, I Love You notes hiding in my lunch bag, a hand-made card propped up against my coffee cup, a birthday cake in the rain. 

He's been gone for 4 months now.

In 4 days I will be turning 50.

I can't imagine what he'd have come up with for that one.
